NIU student Jorge Rodas made history Nov. 3. A journalism major in the Department of Communication, Rodas became the first NIU student to win a Student Production Award from the Chicago/Midwest Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences.
NIU alumna Melissa Leisner won the prestigious Milken National Educator Award in November. The honor, which includes an unrestricted cash prize of $25,000, is dubbed “The Oscars of Teaching” by Teacher Magazine.
NIU’s campus continued to grow in 2013 with the return of Gilbert Hall as residential housing, the opening of the Kenneth and Ellen Chessick Practice Center and the long-awaited start of the process to renovate the Stevens Building.
