Kay, Kate and Nick, are doing the heavy lifting of pre-admissions’ transcript evaluations for the new Golden Apple Accelerators Program. This contract program will admit approximately 50 new graduate degree seeking students to the College of Education, initiate two new online degree programs, and provide new cash flows to the C&I and SEED academic departments. These successes could not be celebrated without the coordination and evaluation work done by these key staff members. Thanks Kay, Kate and Nick!

Kristin and the Child Development and Family Center staff have continued to provide their exceptional care for the students and families they care for, made even more difficult by COVID. They have not only had to manage university expectations for work, care, and health for the staff and the children, but have also had to maintain state/federal regulations as well. The task has been difficult at times, but Kristin and her staff have all managed to maintain their same level of care for their parents and their smallest customers. They have all truly represented what it means to be Huskies even during difficult times.

Paul has assisted our department with the OnBase application we use. He’s not our regular point-person when issues arise with OnBase, but he certainly has been stepping up to help us make the workflow much more user-friendly. His helpfulness, expertise (and wit) are very much appreciated!

On a Friday night at 4:30 p.m., I needed to add a student to my course after 4 weeks so that over the weekend, they could get started on the first four weeks of work. Michael helped make that possible and even offered to watch his email over the weekend in case problems developed. I have had questions in the past and Michael has always been very receptive but in this case, I really needed to help this student and he happily made that possible even though it was very late in the day. Thanks, Michael, I appreciated the support!

Rita went above and beyond by assisting students from a different department with N95 fit testing. Accommodating these students allowed for continuation towards timely graduation and maintenance of clinical partnerships. Thank you for being a team player!

Aubrey has been a rock star since she has started at NIU last year. This year in particular Aubrey has worked with our Fraternity and Sorority Life community in multiple ways throughout the year during the pandemic. Recently Aubrey and the Panhellenic Association (PHA) successfully ran our PHA recruitment online and will be running the Interfraternity Council (IFC) Recruitment the week of February 8th. Recruitment is a busy time of the year and Aubrey has been doing very well and deserves a shout out for that and the work she does with the councils.

This is a shout out for Cindy Meeks, Hotel at Holmes manager. She is one of our best-kept secrets and an amazing asset for NIU. She not only makes guests feel as welcome as if they were staying in her own home, but she also is a wonderful ambassador for NIU making everyone immediately feel like part of the Huskie family. Thanks, Cindy, for your attentiveness, kindness, goodwill and all you do for NIU!

Terry Borg and Jenny Johnson both have demanding, complex jobs executing critical activities in the COE (e.g., K-12 school-district partnerships, outreach locally, nationally and globally), but they are never too busy to provide support to COE faculty to facilitate their research. Thank you both for your long-standing and meaningful contributions to the COE and NIU. You rock!
