I needed information on a significant occurrence on campus. I was having difficulty gathering the information, but Tammie stepped in and informed me she had what I needed and instantly provided it. Tammie is unquestionably one of NIU’s most valuable professional assets. I am grateful to have such a knowledgeable individual among us to whom I can turn at any moment.
Yasmina runs our department and in all my years I’ve never had a boss like her. She is flexible, direct, kind, approachable and fair. She makes me feel confident and excited to go to work each day and do my best.
Salina is such a joy to work with! My department has a lot of paperwork and inquiries going to human resources and Salina is excellent in providing explanations for everything that is going on. She is able to communicate why things are happening the way they are, and then she fixes the issue.

Jeanne continues to impress me by how she’s able to stay organized and concise with such a constant workload. There are even times when Jeanne is already working on a task, then another task gets put in her lap, and she’s able to complete both without any hiccups.
In addition, she’s always timely in response so nothing ever gets left behind.
I admire all she does to support not only myself, but my team because I don’t even want to think about what our situation would be without her!
Kara always acts with consideration and kindness. Never abrupt or short; always polite, patient and knowledgeable. She is a tremendous support to the HR staff and to NIU. Recently, even though the issue I was having with an employee’s situation wasn’t complicated, it might have disrupted things and delayed a satisfying resolution. When I contacted Kara, she jumped in and assisted me in locating what I needed to satisfy the employee/customer. For that, I want to thank Kara and acknowledge a job well done!
Dawn always handles items efficiently and professionally and is so pleasant to work with. The Department of English is lucky to have her!
Salina goes above and beyond providing guidance and assistance in navigating the revised PeopleAdmin processes. Her patience and expertise were critical in assisting our department to get two new staff members hired so that we can provide vital services to our students. Thank you, Salina!
I had an unexpectedly large number of “special requests” I had to make regarding multiple BlackBoard courses and I had to reach out to Amanda for assistance. With every new email, I shared that I hoped that the request would be the “last one,” but it was not true until after a few more requests. Amanda is so knowledgeable, so helpful and so very patient with people – she deserves a huge round of applause for all of the assistance she gave me. Thank you, Amanda, for providing assistance in such a responsive and supportive manner!
In addition to teaching and research in history and environmental studies, Andy contributes to the work of the faculty union as VP and lead organizer. And he’s got a great sense of humor. His efforts on all fronts make NIU a better, funnier, more interesting and more equitable place.
Jenny continues to be the model for all us when it comes to displaying true Huskie spirit. As a supervisor she is a servant leader, supporting her staff, students, organizations and leadership. Her dedication to NIU continues to grow after more than 20 years of service to NIU, working 50-60 hours a week. Under her leadership, HSC has become the destination for the student experience. We all look forward to another 20 years of Jenny’s leadership at HSC!
Debbie is always helpful and takes the time to thoughtfully answer my questions. Debbie never makes me feel like I am bothering her. I was recently putting through numerous AP requests, and had a question if it was faster if I picked up a check. Debbie responded quickly with a lead time which I appreciated and which I relayed to my vendor.
Since I’m a new employee, I’m learning the processes and software at NIU. Margot has twice taken the time out of her day to assist me in creating new POs. She has also helped fix a problem with POs that were created by a previous staff member. I really appreciate her willingness to help me as I learn how to use the software.
