The Office of Student Engagement and Experiential Learning (OSEEL) is excited to introduce the Research Brigade as a new addition to the existing Research Rookies program.
Research Rookies encourages undergraduates to engage in undergraduate research early. First-year, sophomore and first-semester transfer students are paired with faculty mentors with an opportunity to conduct a small-scale research project.
The Research Brigade recognizes exemplary ROTC, veteran and active military students who participate in undergraduate research as part of the Research Rookie program. The Brigade was born out of the legacy of three dynamic NIU ROTC student researchers (Karina Avila, Maria Colompos and Shanell Walter) who set out on a journey in 2014 to grow academically and professionally through a faculty-mentored relationship.
This year, we are pleased to welcome our first member of the Research Brigade, Loretta Sanders. Loretta is a post-baccalaureate nursing major with minors in public health and military science. Ms. Sanders is currently working with two faculty mentors, Lieutenant Colonel Jerome Morrison and Dr. Laura Beamer, conducting research that will lead to the development of a guide that assists soldiers with recovery.
ROTC, veteran or active military students who would like to be a part of the Brigade are encouraged to fill out a 2017-2018 Research Rookie application.
