Huskie United Speaker Series begins this week

Beginning this Wednesday, June 16, the NIU Foundation is hosting a series of virtual events in conjunction with Huskies United, June 23-24. These virtual events feature leaders from NIU sharing about the priorities on which Huskies United centers. Information is below, along with links to register for each event. Huskies United for the Student Emergency Fund

When: Wednesday, June 16 from 5 to 6 p.m. CST

Where:  Zoom (Register Online)

Description:  Hear from NIU’s Assistant Dean of Students Kelly Olson as she shares about the past, present and future impact of NIU’s Student Emergency Fund.  The Student Emergency Fund was established in April 2020 to aid students needing assistance during the COVID-19 pandemic. The fund provides critical dollars that assist with needs such as rent, medical expenses, food, utilities and technology and has been awarded to over 3,600 NIU students.

Huskies United for Scholarships and the Student Experience

When: Thursday, June 17 from 5 to 6 p.m. CST

Where:  Zoom (Register Online)

Description:  Hear from NIU leaders Professor Christina Abreu (Director, Center for Latino and Latin American Studies), Professor Andrea Radasanu (Director, University Honors Program) and Anne Hardy (Director of Scholarships) as they share about their programs and the impact of scholarships on the student experience.  They will be joined by NIU students who will personally share about the impact of scholarship support.

This conversation will be moderated by Professor Alicia Schatteman, Director of the Center for Nonprofit and NGO Studies.

Huskies United for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

When: Tuesday, June 22 from 5 to 6 p.m. CST

Where:  Zoom (Register Online)

Description:  Hear from NIU’s Chief Diversity Officer, Vice President for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, and Interim Chief Human Resources Officer Vernese Edghill-Walden as she shares about NIU’s work in diversity, equity and inclusion and paints a vision for these efforts in the future. Edghill-Walden will be joined by staff from NIU’s Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion in a virtual roundtable-style discussion about the division and the work taking place, followed by attendee questions.
