CEET ranking jumps for the third consecutive year

February 8, 2021

The College of Engineering and Engineering Technology (CEET) is excited to announce that for the third consecutive year its ranking increased in the category for undergraduate engineering programs without a doctorate program as ranked by U.S. News and World Report. CEET increased to 33rd out of 220 schools for 2021, which is up from 38th in 2020. It was previously ranked 45th in 2019 and 74th in 2018.

“This exciting news is recognition of the tireless hard work the faculty and staff have been engaged in for many years for our students,” said CEET Dean Donald Peterson, Ph.D., “It reinforces what we strive to do on a daily basis – to offer high quality and impactful engineering programs here. We are quite enthusiastic about our future and about the growth of our academic programs.”

Rankings are based on six weighted categories:  student outcomes, expert opinion/peer assessment, faculty resources, including classes with fewer than 20 students, financial resources, student excellence, and alumni giving.

The college will soon move into a new category of the U.S. News ranking system as the program has expanded its offerings and is working with its first students in three new Ph.D. programs in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, and industrial and systems engineering.

CEET currently offers bachelor’s degrees in biomedical engineering, electrical engineering, engineering technology, industrial and systems engineering, mechatronics engineering, and mechanical engineering. Master’s degrees are offered in electrical engineering, industrial and systems engineering and mechanical engineering. In addition, the college offers a popular accelerated BS-MS program where students can earn a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree within five years.

Further, NIU’s application process is easy with no application fee and no testing requirements. Tuition is the same for in-state and out-of-state students as well.

For students interested in pursuing a degree in engineering or engineering technology, CEET offers one-hour virtual Engineering Info Night sessions and Engineering Open House events that provide an overview CEET’s programs and engineering career prospects. Register for one of these upcoming events or to learn more about the programs offered by CEET.
