Huskies will soon be returning to campus, and Team NIU is seeking faculty and staff volunteers to help welcome students. Volunteers are needed to assist with move-in at the residence halls and Week of Welcome (WOW) activities from Wednesday, Aug. 19, to Sunday, Aug. 23.
“Although this year looks different and we will not be doing much of the hands-on work that we are used to offering, we are still looking forward to welcoming our students to campus and helping them settle in,” says Chief of Staff to the Associate Vice President for Student Affairs Meg Junk.
As in previous years, faculty and staff are encouraged to volunteer. Approximately 200 faculty and staff volunteers are needed each day.
“To allow for physical distancing and to accommodate for smaller crowd sizes, we have scheduled events for more dates, times and locations,” Junk continues. “This means there are more opportunities for volunteers, and it is more important than ever for all of us to help out whenever and wherever we can.”
Those who sign up to assist with residence hall move-in can help welcome students, provide directions, and remind students and their guests to wear masks and remain physically distanced. To ensure the health and wellness of volunteers, faculty and staff will not assist with moving personal belongings as they have in the past.
Volunteers for Week of Welcome events can assist with check-in, help direct students to events, welcome students to events and remind them of NIU’s expectations for the well-being of our entire community.
A complete list of opportunities is available when you sign up to volunteer.
In the days before students arrive on campus, faculty and staff volunteers will receive specific instructions and any needed training related to their residence hall move-in or Week of Welcome assignments.
Register by Friday, Aug. 14 and help share our #HuskiePride and properly welcome our students to campus!
