An important office has a new home.
Effective March 13, the Academic Advising Center will move from the Health Services Building to the second floor of the Campus Life Building.
“We are excited to join the variety of student interfacing offices that are located in the Campus Life Building,” said Michelle Pickett, director of the Academic Advising Center. “It is a vibrant location where students can take care of a lot of different things in one place, kind of like a one-stop shop.”
Renique Kersh, associate vice provost for Student Engagement and Success, shared the sentiment.
“This move provides the Academic Advising Center with a permanent home that will undoubtedly lead to increased synergies with the other units housed in the Campus Life Building,” Kersh said. “The location in the Health Services Building was not intended to be a long term home so this move allows them to lay roots.”
The Campus Life Building is where Huskies go to visit the University Honors Program, the Northern Star newspaper offices, Student Involvement and Leadership Development, Counseling and Consultation Services, Career Services and now, the Academic Advising Center.
The center’s team of dedicated professionals are there to help students achieve their personal, academic and career goals at NIU. Students without majors or affiliation with one of NIU’s six undergraduate colleges are assigned to the Academic Advising Center for their academic advising needs where they are supported from day one until they’ve made an informed major choice.
“The Academic Advising Center is a wonderful resource for students who are exploring majors,” Kersh said. “The staff are well equipped to help guide students toward the path that is best aligned with their interests and skills.”
The center’s services are also available to all students across campus who want to talk to a professional academic adviser about opportunities to enhance their academic career.
Visit the team at the Academic Advising Center at their new home on the second floor of the Campus Life Building, 545 Lucinda Ave., suite 222. Regular hours are from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Mondays-Fridays. Call 815-753-2573 or email firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
