Students can plan ahead for classes thanks to new initiative

February 24, 2020

A significant project has been in the works that will improve the way Huskies register for classes.

On Feb. 24, NIU launched a year-in-advance view of planned and scheduled classes to help students prepare their path to graduation. The schedule includes days, times, mode of instruction and other information for summer 2020, fall 2020 and spring 2021 semesters.

“It’s a great initiative for the university,” said director of NIU Registration and Records, Jerry Montag. “Students will be able to plan their class schedule, work schedule or any other personal schedule for the entire year. This schedule provides an overview of when courses will be offered.”

Montag said while summer and fall schedules have historically been released at the same time for students to view, this enhancement offers Huskies the opportunity to view the spring schedule offerings as well.

“Allowing students to see the course offerings for three consecutive semesters will help them on their path to graduate in a timely manner,” Montag said.

The current process for the development of the schedule of classes remains the same, Montag said, as does the timing for actual course registration. Registration for summer and fall classes begins April 6; registration for spring classes begins Nov. 2.

Students are encouraged to work with their adviser and log into MyNIU to review their schedule for upcoming semesters to see if any changes occurred after registering.
