NIU Business management alumna Deb Brucker appointed VP of American Express

Deb Brucker (B.S. management) is vice president of Design & Value Generation Learning for American Express. Brucker was appointed to this role when she joined the company in November 2019.

As part of the Global Services Learning Network (GSLN) organization, Brucker is responsible for leading the Design & Val Gen learning team. She helps drive critical initiatives that include value generation, customer first resolution and digital across multiple lines of business. She and her team define learning requirements and strategy, build robust curriculum and deliver next generation learning to new hires and tenured colleagues through effective channels. The work of Brucker’s team is pivotal in helping to drive continuous improvement in the quality and effectiveness of training using modern approaches to adult learning.

Prior to joining American Express, Deb held the position of head of learning and HR advisory with Citi in Chicago, Illinois and chief learning officer with Fifth Third Bank in Cincinnati, Ohio. She also has more than 15 years of experience leading human resources organizations in the United States, Canada and Mexico.

Deb holds a bachelor of science degree in human resource management from the Northern Illinois University College of Business and a master of business administration from DePaul. She recently served as vice chair of the NIU College of Business Board of Executive Advisors and continues to volunteer her time and support as a board member, mentor and individual scholarship donor.

Deb is married to husband Jim, and they are currently relocating from Chicago, IL to Sunrise, FL with their dog Maizie. Brucker is an avid college sports fan and a foodie who enjoys learning about local cultures through food.
