A recently launched Families of NIU blog aims to help parents navigate the college process with advice, tips and personal stories from NIU employees who have been or will be in their shoes.
As insiders of the campus community, employees will address a wide array of questions and concerns related to the student experience. Topics will range from what to keep in mind during the application process to financial aid resources to choosing a major to what to look for when visiting college campuses.
The goal is to provide resources—specific to Huskies and beyond—and to let families know they’re not alone in their journeys.
“Engaging the parents of prospective students allows us to build a holistic relationship with their families,” said Sol Jensen, vice president of NIU’s Division of Enrollment Management, Marketing and Communications.
“By amplifying the diverse voices of our employees across campus in this parent-to-parent approach, we hope to position NIU as a resource for families navigating the college search process with their students.”
Along with building a relationship with families, the blog will highlight the important role NIU’s diverse employees play both on campus and at home. Blog entries will be personal, yet practical.
Invited to subscribe to bi-weekly entries, readers will be asked to suggest topics, ask questions and leave comments along the way.
