Linda Yates – Department of Biological Sciences

July 29, 2019

Linda Yates is a star in the Department of Biological Sciences! Although she recently joined the department as laboratory manager in November 2018, Linda has been a Huskie at heart for quite some time and her passion for NIU, scientific inquiry and research is unparalleled. She completed both her undergraduate and graduate degrees at NIU, studying biology, immunogenetics and molecular biology. From there, she spent 18 years as a research associate, working with W.E. Briles’ immunogenetic lab. Now, as a lab manager, she is key in ensuring that the department’s labs and related research projects operate smoothly—plus, she is an excellent resource for lab procedures as well as safety knowledge. She is always enthusiastic and willing to help—she goes the extra mile to make things work and ensure that we all have the materials, supplies, and equipment (and functioning, too!) to do our work and research. Moreover, she is incredibly well-versed in all of the department’s graduate students’ research; she takes time to chat with us, check in on our progress, and give us a boost when we need it most. Beyond all of her work, she has recently taken on a project to refurbish and update all of the communication boards around Montgomery Hall to feature research opportunities and jobs as well as highlight the work and successes of NIU biology alumni. Kudos to her and a huge thank you from all of us!
