Student parking permits for the 2019-2020 school year are now available for purchase through NIU Parking Services. The permits are offered on an annual or per-semester basis, with a variety of price points.

NIU Parking Services offers several purchasing and payment options:

Payment Options:

  • Cash – in office only
  • Check – for full amount (made out to NIU), in the office or by mail
  • Credit Card – (all major cards accepted), in the office or online
  • Bursar Account – in office or online

There are several ways to purchase a permit:

Online:  This is the most cost-effective method of purchasing a parking permit. Simply visit the Parking Services website and click on “Permit” on the top navigation pane. Those who purchase online will be allowed to print a temporary permit, which will be valid for 14 days. Permits purchased online will be mailed within three business days.

In person:  Parking permits may be purchased at the Parking Services office at 121 Normal Road, Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.  There is an additional $15 fee applied to all permits purchased in person, excluding reserved permits.

By mail:  Download and print the Permit Application Form.  Mail the completed form, along with a check (payable to NIU) for the amount of the permit to: Northern Illinois University, Campus Parking Services, 121 Normal Road, DeKalb IL 60115.  Parking Services will mail the permit within three business days of receiving the order. There is an additional $15 fee applied to all permits purchased by mail, excluding reserved permits.

Motorcycle permits are also available for purchase. These permits are offered at a discounted rate for individuals who have purchased a vehicle permit (excluding green permits). If ordering both permits at the same time, be sure to order the vehicle permit first to ensure the discount is applied. There is an additional $15 fee applied to all permits purchased in person, excluding reserved permits.

Free parking is available to any interested student or visitor.  In order to take advantage of this option, individuals must register their vehicle with Campus Parking Services. They will receive a green permit which allows them to park in Lot C3, near the Convocation Center on the west side of campus.  A map of all campus parking is available online.

New parking permit you may be used immediately after being received.
