Do you know someone who would make a great Huskie? Encourage them to register for our Summer Open House on Friday, July 19, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Held in spring, summer and fall semesters, Open Houses are one of NIU’s main recruiting tools, says Director of Admissions Quinton Clay.
“These events show prospective students what it means to be a Huskie,” he said. “The best way to find out everything NIU can do for them is to visit.”
A workshop will allow attendees to apply for admission for free. Students and their guests can picture themselves at NIU by touring the residence halls and campus. Future Huskies will get help choosing their major at a comprehensive academic browsing fair.
NIU’s Financial Aid and Scholarship Office will have a table at the event and provide a presentation to help individuals and families make their college goals affordable.
Counselors will be ready to help attendees explore opportunities for aid and scholarships, including a new NIU Merit Award for freshman admitted after fall 2020. If they apply with at least a 3.5 GPA, they’re guaranteed at least a $3,000 scholarship renewable to a total of $12,000.
“At the end of the day, everyone in the Huskie community is a recruiter,” said Sol Jensen, director of Enrollment Management, Marketing and Communications. “We can all do our part to meet the goals of NIU’s Strategic Enrollment Plan by encouraging anyone who’s interested to take the next step and see NIU for themselves.”
The three goals of the SEM Plan focus on strengthening NIU’s identity, serving our region with sustained enrollment and honoring the diversity of our campus by eliminating equity gaps.
