For the past 11 years, the recipients of NIU’s Forward, Together Forward Scholarships have embodied the spirit of those lost on Feb. 14, 2008. The scholarships are given each year to up to five students who demonstrate not only academic excellence but also strength of character, motivation, inspiration, integrity and high regard for others.
The 2019 winners of the scholarships once again highlight the diversity, strength and integrity of the NIU student body. They are:
- Ainsley Galvez, operations management and information systems major, and
doubleminor in Latino/Latin American studies and social entrepreneurship.
- Kristen Koehler, elementary education/reading major.
- Emily Schaumberg,
- Pablo Valencia-Garcia, athletic training major.
- Keelan Wright, music education major, and
doubleminor in black studies and business innovation and entrepreneurship.
The latest class of recipients brings the total number of beneficiaries of the Feb.14th Memorial Fund to 55. This year’s recipients each received a $5,000 scholarship. More than 1,800 donors have given over $745,000 to support the fund.
The five 2019 winners embody all of the best qualities of our NIU community and the Huskies lost in 2008. Profiles of the Forward, Together Forward Scholars can be found in the NIU Newsroom.
