Whether you’re looking to make a difference in the lives of students, give back to the community or reconnect with NIU and fellow Huskies, volunteering through the NIU Alumni Association is an easy way to give back. Here are some volunteer opportunities coming up this semester:
Donate Blood on Thursday, Feb. 22, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Chick Evans Field House. Join faculty, staff and students to donate blood to support our local blood centers. The blood drive is sponsored by the NIU Student Association, the Campus Activities Board, Greek organizations and the Student Health Organization. To schedule a time, please enter the DeKalb zip code, 60115, at the Red Cross website.
Illinois Public University Higher Education Reception on Wednesday, Feb. 28, 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the State House Inn (101 E. Adams St., Springfield, IL). Public university officials, alumni volunteers and the NIU Alumni Association will join the General Assembly at a networking reception to discuss the importance of funding higher education. Alumni interested in volunteering to advocate on NIU’s behalf are encouraged to attend. Email alums@niu.edu to RSVP.
Undergraduate Research and Artistry Day on Wednesday, April 18, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Holmes Student Center. Play a crucial role in this exciting event that celebrates students’ research, artistry and community engagement endeavors. Volunteer to judge student poster presentations or exhibits on the overall design, relevance of the project, appropriate methods used, and interaction of the poster or exhibit. Volunteer judges are needed for 75-minute shifts throughout the day and are encouraged to sign up for several shifts. To volunteer, please register.
NIU Cares Day on Saturday, April 21. NIU Cares Day is a campus-wide day of community service that brings NIU students, faculty, staff and alumni together. Volunteers complete projects that benefit DeKalb County’s nonprofit organizations and community agencies to thank the community for their support of the institution and its mission. Volunteer one of two ways:
- Sign up to volunteer alongside an NIU student in the DeKalb area
- Complete an individual service project or coordinate an alumni service project in your area
To sign up, please email alums@niu.edu.
