When the Northern Illinois Federal Credit Union recently became members of the DeKalb Chamber of Commerce, Credit Union President Mark Lenaway saw an email about the Jobs PLUS program and thought about how it might help NIU student Kayla Close. Close has been employed at the Credit Union for a little over a year and works about 20 hours a week while carrying a full course load. Lenaway was impressed by how Close balances her classes with her work hours.
He thought Jobs PLUS could be a way for the Credit Union to contribute to Close’s career development as she pursues her degree completion, so he reached out to Chad Glover, director of Jobs PLUS. After an email exchange with Glover, he and Close determined that the program was indeed a great fit. Close has already been reviewing the Jobs PLUS schedule to see which events she is interested in. She will be eligible to attend some events on her paid work time with the Credit Union.
“We are thrilled to have the Northern Illinois Federal Credit Union participate in Jobs PLUS and look forward to having Kayla at some of our events in the spring semester,” said Glover. “Working together with local businesses and organizations like the Credit Union we have a goal to differentiate the work experiences NIU students have from their peers at other institutions.”
Additional local employers interested in participating in Jobs PLUS can contact Glover by email at firstname.lastname@example.org or by phone at 815-753-2056.
