NIU Figure Skating Team prepares to take to the ice

January 10, 2018

Last November, the NIU Figure Skating team competed at the Bronco Challenge Cup sanctioned by the United States Figure Skating Association and hosted by Western Michigan University. The team competed – and placed – against 17 other teams in eight separate events including free skate events, short programs, ice dances and team events.

The experience provided moments to learn from, and areas to improve upon for the next competition this coming February.

“The experience definitely pushes us to practice more intelligently,” says NIU Figure Skating President Ashley Grazutis. “Overall, I am very proud of our team effort [this] season.”

The team has been preparing for the upcoming competition on Saturday, Feb. 10, and Sunday, Feb. 11, at the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities, by fine-tuning freestyle programs and learning new ice dances.

If you would like to learn more information about the team or would like to join, please contact Ashley Grazutis (agrazutis@gmail.com).
