An upgraded university calendar debuted last week, and all departments, offices and organizations are encouraged to use it for listing their public events.
The new calendar features a user-friendly interface and gives mobile users a great experience. The calendar provides one unified location for all event information and includes feeds from NIU Athletics. Soon, feeds from HuskieLink and the City of DeKalb will be added.
“Our goal was to make event information easily accessible for both the campus and surrounding community, and to show how vibrant campus life is here at NIU,” said Jennice O’Brien, senior director for Web and Internal Communications.
The Office of Web and Internal Communications migrated over all events from the previous version of the calendar to the new calendar, making it a nearly seamless transition.
“The expanded functionality will increase usage of the calendar, drive attendance at events and give better analytics on how our online audience engages with the calendar,” said O’Brien.
Departments can easily promote their events through a streamlined event promotion process: Departments can manage their event information in one place and then share it through many channels like the department’s website, NIU Today emails, the Monday morning announcements and social media accounts.
The user-friendly interface means events can be added quickly and customized with photos; information like ticket cost and registration instructions can be included, and campus locations are displayed through the calendar’s integration with the university’s campus map.
Visitors can also log in through Facebook and quickly RSVP to events that their friends are attending and receive email reminders about upcoming events in which they have expressed an interest.
