NIU Athletic to hold ‘Week of Giving’ Nov. 6-10

With the holiday season approaching, NIU Athletics is providing an opportunity for fans, alumni and friends to share the gift of giving in support of the most vital part of the Huskie Athletics family – its student-athletes.

From Monday, Nov. 6, to Friday, Nov. 10, NIU Athletics will embark upon an initiative called Huskies Invest: A Week of Giving. As part of its ongoing Campaign to Sustain fundraising effort, NIU Associate Vice-President and Director of Athletics Sean T. Frazier, along with NIU coaches, are asking supporters to invest in NIU’s 17 sports programs and 400 student-athletes who are working every day to continue to build on the tradition and success established by their predecessors in Cardinal and Black.

“Huskies Invest is about supporting the most fundamental and important part of our athletic department and that is the student-athletes,” Frazier said. “We wanted to spend a week shining a spotlight on our student-athletes across every program, and ask members of Huskie Nation to help us grow, help us advance, and help us continue the proud tradition of NIU Athletics by giving to the campaign and to the Huskie Athletic Fund during this week.”

The goal of Huskies Invest is to raise at least $100,000 during the Week of Giving. Throughout the Week of Giving, NIU Athletics will focus on student-athlete stories through videos, graphics, photos, quotes on social media platforms, online, in e-mails and mailings. Progress toward the $100,000 goal will be monitored on the Huskies Invest website.

While Cost of Attendance is the primary focus of Huskies Invest: A Week of Giving, donations toward sport-specific programs or to the Campaign to Sustain overall are equally important to advance and continue to build the future of NIU Athletics.

“The hope is that we can surpass the $100,000 goal during this week,” Frazier said. “The Campaign to Sustain is an extremely important initiative as we build the future of NIU Athletics, and this Huskies Invest Week of Giving is another way to bring attention to this effort.”

The Huskies Invest initiative will be on display during all NIU Athletics home events starting this past weekend with the NIU women’s basketball exhibition game versus Benedictine and culminating with home football, volleyball and men’s basketball contests later this week on Nov. 9-10.
