NIU artists display work in new Chicago gallery space

The NIU School of Art and Design has partnered with NIU’s Education Systems Center and the Alumni Association, affording the School of Art and Design a downtown Chicago exhibition venue to showcase its students’ and graduates’ artistry and creative research.

The first exhibition at the SoAD Chicago Center Gallery, titled “Launch”, celebrates the work of Spring 2017 Bachelor of Fine Arts graduates—and recipients of prestigious Chicago Artist Coalition Summer 2017 Launch Residencies—Marie Damien, Jaimie Feathers, Brock Pieper and Emily Wittke.

The NIU Chicago space was in need of art on the walls, having only moved in the space in August of 2016.

“Having alumni artwork in the NIU lobby impacts our visitors’ experiences and our work environment. The benefits are something the staff in Chicago are witnessing and experiencing firsthand,” said Sandy Garza, administrative aide for the Education Systems Center.

All are welcome to visit the Launch Gallery and the NIU Chicago offices. A reception for the exhibition is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 28, from 1-3 p.m.
