Mark L. Canaday, assistant director of housing at NIU, died this week at the age of 47.
His career in housing began with five years at the Illinois Math and Science Academy, one year at Illinois College, and finally eighteen amazing years at NIU. Mark was very involved in the community as a member of Kiwanis, Barb Boosters and Christ the Teacher Parish Newman Center. He attended all his boy’s events and was a certified umpire. He was also involved in NIU organizations, RHA, NRHH, the Hall Council and the Student Conduct Board.
He is survived by his loving wife of 25 years, Amy, and three amazing sons.
A funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, July 3, 2017, at Christ the Teacher Parish Newman Center, 512 Normal Road, DeKalb, with Fr. Matthew McMorrow celebrating. Visitation will be from 3-7 p.m. Sunday, July 2, 2017, at Anderson Funeral Home in DeKalb, with a wake service at 7 p.m.
