On Friday, May 26, NIU’s Department of Information Technology (DoIT) will delete any remaining Google apps, Gmail and data as it completes the final move toward supporting a single, university-wide communication and collaboration system, Microsoft Office 365.
NIU completed moving students to Microsoft Office 365 in August 2016, at which point Google Apps and Gmail accounts stopped being created for new students. Faculty, staff and students were notified of the impending deletion of legacy Google accounts in December 2016 and again in January 2017. Office 365 is NIU’s email and document collaboration solution and should be used in place of existing university-provided Google Apps/Gmail accounts.
To maintain an niu.edu email address for more than one-year after graduation, students are advised to consider joining the NIU Alumni Association.
