NIU Alumni Association welcomes new executive director

November 28, 2016

niuaa-centerpieceThe NIU Alumni Association is proud to announce that Reggie Bustinza will take the helm as its new executive director, effective Nov. 28.

“We’ve found an ideal leader to continue the momentum of alumni pride and engagement that has been set in motion here at NIU,” said Catherine Squires, vice president of University Advancement at NIU and president and CEO of the NIU Foundation. “Reggie has seemingly endless energy and enthusiasm as well as a genuine desire to come to NIU.”

Bustinza has been the director of alumni relations at Lewis University in Romeoville since 2012. At Lewis, he worked closely with campus partners and a 32-member alumni board to create high-impact, engaging alumni programming. Prior to that, Bustinza was the associate director of alumni relations at Bradley University in Peoria. He holds a bachelor’s degree in communications and a master’s degree in business administration, both from Bradley.

“Our ability to attract a professional of Reggie’s caliber speaks volumes about the character of our alumni, the culture of our organization, and the integrity of the work we’re doing to bring in this new day for our alumni and university,” Squires said.

The executive director search was led by a 10-member search committee made up of NIU faculty, alumni and administrators as well as representatives from the Alumni Association, Foundation and University boards.

Alumni will have a chance to meet Bustinza at the 16th Annual NIU Alumni Association Holiday Party on Thursday, Dec. 8, at the University Club in Chicago. Tickets are available at myniu.com/events.
