November 1, 2016

hiv-testing-homepage-portraitFree, anonymous HIV testing will be available on campus for all Northern Illinois University students. NIU’s Wellness Promotion is partnering with Open Door Health Center of Illinois to provide this service. The testing will be located in the Holmes Student Center between 12:30-2:30 p.m. in Room 503 on Thursday, Nov. 3, and Thursday, Nov. 17, and in Room 403 on Thursday, Dec. 1, which is World AIDS Day. To further commemorate this occasion, more opportunities and promotional events are being developed.

Open Door Health Center, with locations in Aurora and Elgin, provides health and educational services focused on sexual health and wellness. The Center offers anonymous HIV testing, which means your name will not be connected to your results. In addition, students may choose between two testing options. These options include a finger prick test, called Clearview, or an oral swab, called OraQuick. By partnering with Wellness Promotion, Open Door is able to bring this testing to NIU for free.

Other testing locations and HIV educational opportunities will be available at various NIU Resource Centers. The Center for Black Studies will hold testing on Wednesday, Nov. 16, between 1-4 p.m.
