National Institutes of Health program director to present

health-researchSponsored Programs Administration and the Division of Research and Innovation Partnerships invite you to a presentation by Dr. Michelle Timmerman, director of the National Institutes of Health Academic Research Enhancement Award (NIH AREA) program on Tuesday, Oct. 25, at 3:15 p.m., in 315 Altgeld Hall.

The NIH is the largest federal funder of biomedical and biobehavioral programs, supporting research in areas of human disease, human growth and development, the biological effects of environmental contaminants, and the understanding of mental, addictive and physical disorders. The AREA, or R15 mechanism, is targeted toward institutions like NIU with less than $6,000,000 in NIH funding and is intended to support meritorious research, expose students to research and strengthen the research environment of the institutions that receive awards.

Dr. Timmerman will share information and insights about the AREA program followed by a question and answer period.

Seating is limited for this event. Please email Sue Bergman at asosp@niu.edu by noon on Monday, Oct. 24, if you would like to attend.
