NIU alumnus Derrick Strand (accountancy ’90), an organizational strategist and self-described “machete thinker,” will deliver a Jobs PLUS talk on “working effectively in teams” at 4:30 p.m., Friday, Oct. 14, in the NIU Convocation Center. The event is open to all NIU students.
“High-performing teams don’t ‘just happen’,” Strand says. A lot of work goes into creating and managing productive teams. In this interactive session, Strand will discuss the critical components of team success, including setting clear objectives and goals; assembling a team built for success; developing ownership and buy-in; creating productive environments, stimulating productive conversations; driving to results and being accountable.
Online registration for the Jobs PLUS event is strongly encouraged. Jobs PLUS events also qualify for Passport in the College of Business and Honors Engaged in University Honors.
Jobs PLUS regularly hosts free professional development events open to all NIU students. Through our partnerships with employers, students could even be eligible to attend these events on paid work time. To learn more about Jobs PLUS or future professional development events, visit the Jobs PLUS website or contact Chad Glover at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Immediately following the Jobs PLUS event at 6:00 p.m., the Second-Year Experience is hosting a networking event where students will have the opportunity to meet and connect with faculty from the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences (LA&S). Students will have the opportunity to network with potential employers who often hire students with LA&S degrees. This event is an informal way to bring students, faculty and staff together to begin or continue the conversation about prepping for career success with an LA&S degree.
All majors are welcome to attend! Food will be served! Reserve your spot for the LA&S networking event at goo.gl/xHEok8.
And at 7:00 p.m., carry on the fun at the NIU Women’s Volleyball game! Cheer on the Women’s Volleyball team while building professional connections at the NIU Convocation Center!
