NIU’s Division of International Affairs invites nominations for the 2016 awards to recognize outstanding practice in international education. Nominations are due by Wednesday, Oct. 26. Recognition is planned for Outstanding International Educator, Outstanding Department Contribution to International Education and Outstanding Student Contribution to International Education for a domestic student and a non-immigrant student.
The awards will be announced during International Education Week, which begins Nov. 14, at the International Recognition Reception, scheduled from 3-4 p.m., on Tuesday, Nov. 15, in the Homes Student Center’s Sky Room.
The “Outstanding International Educator at NIU” honors a faculty or staff member who, over time, has significantly contributed to international education at NIU. A modest travel reimbursement of $500 is given to the faculty or staff member chosen for the year. Past recipients have made sustained contributions over time to the enhancement of international education at NIU through teaching, research, artistry, public service and/or student service efforts.
The non-monetary “Outstanding Department Contribution to International Education at NIU” recognizes a department that has made significant contributions in support of the mission statement of the Division of International Affairs. The Division’s aim is to reach out to the greater NIU community to infuse global perspectives throughout the teaching, research and engagement missions of the institution while supporting and maintaining the broader connections of NIU to the world.
Nominees for “Outstanding Student Contribution to International Education” are undergraduate and graduate students in good academic standing and enrolled at NIU during the semester the award nominations are due. Acknowledgment of these students encourages their classmates to participate in, and create greater visibility for, international education at NIU. Each recipient will receive a plaque commemorating the award.
