NIUs Campus Recreation and the National Exercise Trainers Association (NETA), are co-sponsoring two nationally-recognized fitness certification workshops on Oct. 29 and 30.
The first workshop, group exercise certification, will be on Saturday, Oct. 29, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. This workshop is geared for potential and current fitness instructors who will learn basic academic and practical application of teaching group exercise. No college, science or teaching background required. Workshop registration includes a full-day review, written exam and two-year certification. The cost for this certification program is $299.
The second workshop, boxing fusion, will be held the following day on Sunday, Oct. 30, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. This course is for current fitness instructors who are interested in incorporating boxing movements into their group exercise class. Participants will learn basic boxing techniques and how to fuse elements of plyometrics and strength to make a quick, 30-minute high-intensity circuit, guaranteed to get your clients the toned and powerful body of a boxer. Learn how to design classes using a simple 30-minute format that will make class easy to follow, but tough to do! Note: this course will review basic boxing fundamentals and is a non-contact format. The fee for this workshop is $119.
