NIU Police to host Safety Awareness Day

September 28, 2016

public-safety-niu-portraitThe Department of Police and Public Safety will host NIU Safety Awareness Day, a safety resource fair from 7 to 9 p.m., on Monday, Oct. 3, in the Duke Ellington Ballroom at the Holmes Student Center.

The NIU Police Department is committed to protecting and serving our campus and the greater DeKalb community. With the beginning of every school year, there are several inquiries related to law enforcement and safety in our community. In response to these inquiries, we are hosting the NIU Safety Awareness Day in order to provide information and resources which are available to the community.

NIU Police Department is partnering with local law enforcement and emergency responders from across DeKalb County including, DeKalb Police, Sycamore Police, DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office, Illinois State Police and the DeKalb Fire Department. The goal is to create a positive environment where community members can engage with police, their local officers and firemen.

Come out and participate in this interactive event! Experience a texting while driving simulator, ride a “seatbelt convincer” or take the “fireman’s challenge.” Meet our first responders while learning about the safety resources available on and off campus. There will be free food, prizes and give-a-ways. For more information, contact Officer Wey-ni Langdon with the NIUPD at 815-753-1212 or email at wlangdon@niu.edu
