DeKalb/NIU Art Walk, Oct. 6th

Downtown DeKalb, as well as several venues on NIU campus, will be rolling out the red carpet for art, music and culture lovers during this spectacular event.

From 5-8 p.m., stroll among the 23 locations in and around downtown and NIU while you enjoy the feast of sights, sounds, tastes and textures prepared by local artists. Do some creative shopping at some of the many unique retail establishments that will be open for business and hosting performances and exhibits for your pleasure, or dive into one of the downtown’s many eateries to treat your taste buds, as well as your eyes and ears.

As your journey takes you to the NIU campus, explore the complex creative culture of Burma. Try your hand at Hmong art, or create Hmong music with an interactive app. Connect with the imagination of NIU’s students at exhibits located throughout the campus, and get a firsthand glimpse of the extraordinary creative work being done at our area’s flagship university.

All exhibits are free and open to the public.

Cap off your evening with the “Art of Swing” concert at the Egyptian Theater at 8 p.m., featuring the world renown NIU Jazz Orchestra, directed by Professor Reggie Thomas. Tickets are $10 for children and students, $15 for adults.
