NIU Community invited to attend President’s Welcome Back Picnic

August 17, 2016

President's PicnicAmong the highlights of Welcome Days 2016 is the annual President’s Welcome Back Picnic. This year’s event hosted by NIU President Doug Baker will be held  from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 21.

The location for the President’s Welcome Back Picnic is the west shore of the East Lagoon and the quad area west of Castle Drive.  The event is one of many events scheduled during the weekend and beyond to welcome new and returning students to the NIU campus and community.

All NIU students, faculty and staff are invited to join President Baker for an afternoon of free food, live music and other fun activities. Campus Recreation’s Outdoor Adventures team will again provide canoe rides on the lagoon, and the Campus Activities Board will feature its “bubble ball” challenge at the event.

Several local merchants and organizations will also showcase some of the great resources and amenities the community has to offer.

The President’s Welcome Back Picnic has become one of the most popular Welcome Days events with more than 6,000 people attending the picnic in 2015. The event is a great way for the NIU campus community to celebrate the start of an exciting new academic year.
