NIU Police Officer EB Slouka and Julie Castile celebrate
K-9 Miley’s new bullet/stab-proof vest.

The NIU Police Department received a bullet/stab-proof vest July 11 thanks to Julie Castile and her family and their generous donation to Vesting America’s Police K-9’s.

The vest was donated to Explosive Odor Detection (EOD) K-9 Miley and her handler, Officer EB Slouka.

K-9 Miley, a 6-year-old Belgium Malinois, began working with Officer Slouka and the NIU Police Department five years ago. Miley is trained to search for and detect explosive odors.

The NIU Police Department has two EOD K-9 units which are significant assets for the college and invaluable tools for the department and the community it serves.

Leaders of the K-9 Unit and NIU Police Department say they are grateful to have the privilege to accept a bullet/stab proof vest from the Castile Family and Vesting America’s Police K-9’s.
