Varsie Geisler, office support specialist in the School of Nursing and Health Studies, has received the Patricia S. Siebrasse Administrative Professionals Award for Excellence for 2016.

Given by the Administrative Professionals Advisory Council, the commemorative plaque was presented April 27 to Geisler at the Administrative Professionals’ Day breakfast.

Her nominators had this to say about her more than 15 years of service to NIU:

  • “Her commitment to her profession, department, students, university and community as a whole is tremendous.”
  • “In Spring 2014, Varsie stepped in to assist in planning, scheduling and inputting around 200 sections of nursing courses into MyNIU – an extremely hefty workload for one person, much less in addition to her already overflowing duties as the office support specialist for the Public Health and Health Education programs.”
  • “Her support of others in various offices around the university has buttressed NIU, particularly for new employees still ‘learning the ropes’ of their position, helping NIU run more smoothly.”
  • “Varsie is a keystone for NUHS. Whether it’s using her extensive grammar knowledge to edit documents and essays for faculty or office workers, extending hospitality to students and visitors, or cutting into her own work time to assist secretaries and staff in need, Varsie has dedicated herself to Northern Illinois University that will leave a lasting impression on our community.”

Siebrasse is a retired employee who served NIU for 50 years as an administrative professional and was a valuable member of the Administrative Professionals Advisory Council since its inception in 1995.

Winners of the Siebrasse award demonstrate continued commitment to their field and operational efficiency within their organization and provide meaningful contributions to NIU.
