April 14, 2016

post-tradTo celebrate the achievements and contributions of its student populations, Military & Post-Traditional Student Services will host its annual Post-Trad Appreciation Week the week of April 18.

This week is designed specifically to recognize post-traditional students who identify as one or more of the following populations: military students, transfer students, student parents, commuters/living off-campus and/or returning/adult students.

“Post-Traditional Appreciation Week gives Northern Illinois University an opportunity to not only celebrate our diverse student population but to have events to enhance their lives on and off campus,” said Eric Armstrong, director of Military & Post-Traditional Student Services.

Post-Trad Appreciation Week begins Tuesday, April 19, with its inaugural “Transfer 2 Transfer Tips” night from 6 to 8 p.m. in the North Fishbowl of Stevenson Tower.

The event, which is co-sponsored by Housing & Dinning, the Latino Resource Center and the Office of Student Academic Success, will feature a panel session followed by a small group discussion with students and staff regarding the transfer experience and campus resources. The discussion will be followed by a social in the New Orleans game room. Child care services will be available from 6 to 7 p.m. in the Stevenson Sunset Room.

MPTSS graduate assistants will have plenty of helpful information and guidance about every aspect of renting with roommates while at NIU. This will be a fantastic opportunity for students to meet others who are currently looking for roommates. Resources will be provided to guide students through the entire process of renting with roommates.

Later that evening, MPTSS, along with the Student Association and Residence Hall Association, will host its annual Cosmic Bowling Night, beginning at 5:30 p.m. at the Huskies Den. All the lanes, shoes, pool tables and video games will be available at no charge until 9:30 p.m. All NIU students are welcome! This is a family-friendly event so all spouses, children and other family members are encouraged to come as well.

To wrap up the week’s activities, post-traditional students are invited to the office’s annual End of Year BBQ from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, April 22. The BBQ once again will take place on the north lawn of Adams Hall.
