Money Smart Week 2016 begins April 23

April 5, 2016

money-smart-week-2The Financial Wellness Collaborative, comprised of local community and university partners, is proud to again bring a local version of the national Money Smart Week program to NIU and DeKalb, LaSalle and Lee counties.

Money Smart Week is a public awareness campaign sponsored by the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago to promote financial literacy across all age groups.

Last year, the coalition promoted 114 events with more than 3,400 individuals taking part in workshops, sessions and special events. This year, the financial literacy campaign has again expanded and added many new facets to the week. Numerous local businesses, financial institutions, schools, libraries, not-for-profits, government agencies and the media will host more than 120 free programs in the month of April with the majority of sessions being held during the week of April 23 to 30.

Due to the late national campaign, the federal reserve bank of Chicago is allowing colleges, universities and the K-12 system to host sessions throughout the entire month of April.

NIU is proud to host 35 sessions this year.

Collaborative members and members of the greater community will be presenting on topics covering all facets of personal finance from establishing a budget to preparing for college to first-time home-buying, estate planning, couponing and more.

All are welcome, including NIU students, faculty, staff and community members. For more information, call (815) 753-HELP or email randi@niu.edu.
