The University Honors Program will host a blood drive from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 5, in Room 100 of the Campus Life Building. Donors can sign up online or call (847) 305-9998 to reserve a time.

Appointments are preferred; walk-ins are welcome. Photo ID is required. Each donor will receive a free tap water bottle.

Donors must be in good health and feeling well, at least 17 years old (16-year-olds are eligible with written approval from parents or guardians) and weigh 110 pounds or more.

Fever, persistent cough, sore throat or chest congestion disqualifies a donor. Donors taking medications might be deferred from donating due to their underlying medical condition.

Other restrictions:

  • Donors must wait eight weeks between regular whole blood donations.
  • The waiting period is 16 weeks after double red cell apheresis and seven days after platelet apheresis.
  • Travel to certain parts of the world might be cause for deferral.

It is recommended to eat something within four hours prior to the donation.
