Students to reflect on LGBTQ ‘Creating Change’ conference

February 29, 2016

National LGBTQ Task ForceNIU‘s Gender & Sexuality Resource Center will host a daylong institute Tuesday, March 8, presented by eight students who attended the National LGBTQ Task Force’s 2016 Creating Change conference.

Financial support for their attendance was provided by the GSRC; the Student Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Advisory Committee; and Prism.

At the conference, students attended daylong and break-out sessions that discussed LGBTQ historical and present-day issues, while honoring and celebrating marginalized identities.

The students also had the opportunity to attend large- and small-group institutes and workshops that focused on racial, economic, social justice, human rights and LGBTQ+ equality.

In addition to learning how to be an effective and successful change agent, the students were able to connect with speakers, leaders and other attendees to strengthen and develop their personal and professional identities.

The presentation, scheduled from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. in the Heritage Room of the Holmes Student Center, is a drop-in event. All are welcome to come at any time. This event will include information on social justice topics and unique perspectives on how to create change at NIU.
