Photo of a megaphoneLeaders from education, social services, business and others will join together Thursday to call upon state legislators to resolve the ongoing budget stalemate.

The event, a Unity Rally for a State Budget, will take place at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 11, at the Barsema Alumni and Visitors Center, 231 N. Annie Glidden Road in DeKalb. The public is invited.

Since July 1, the budget standoff has deprived colleges and universities of any funding and has had a dramatic impact upon the ability of many social service agencies to serve those in need. The resulting instability has also impacted the local business and civic community, health care providers and others.

To draw attention to the damage being done by the gridlock in the Statehouse, leaders from NIU, Kishwaukee College, students, the cities of DeKalb and Sycamore, the DeKalb County Economic Development Committee, area schools and others will share stories of how the ongoing stalemate has impacted individual lives and the community as a whole.
