PCSW invites nominations for several awards

NIU studentsNIU’s Presidential Commission on the Status of Women is accepting nominations for its 2016 student, faculty and staff awards.

Nominations for the Outstanding Women Student Awards, created in 1980, are due Friday, Feb. 12.

The annual awards encourage the full participation of women students in all facets of the university experience and in their communities; support their development of corresponding strengths, both cooperative and competitive; and celebrate their achievements and contributions.

More information on eligibility and nomination forms are available online. Students are welcome to nominate themselves and others.

The Martha D. Cooper Journalism Award

This award recognizes outstanding journalistic effort contributing to greater awareness of women’s issues at NIU. The award is open to all NIU students and alumni who have written and published about women’s issues at NIU from March 1, 2015, to March 31, 2016. The deadline is Friday, April 1.

In addition to the student awards, the PCSW is accepting nominations for three faculty/staff awards.

PCSWWilma D. Stricklin Award for the Enhancement of the Campus Climate for Women

This award is given to an individual who has made continual and extraordinary contributions to the climate for women on campus.

Outstanding Mentor Award

This award is presented to an NIU civil service, professional staff or faculty member who has shown exceptional commitment to advancing the educational and/or career goals of NIU women. The recipient of this award has created opportunities that help protégés achieve their goals.

Sharon Howard Women who Make a Difference Award

This award is presented to an NIU civil service, professional staff or faculty member who has shown dedication to the empowerment of NIU women by making changes at the unit level that address issues important to women.
