NIU’s College of Law has been recognized by National Jurist / preLaw magazines as one of the top law schools for delivering graduates to public service careers, specifically in the category of prosecutors/public defenders.
The list is featured in the current Winter edition of preLaw.
The study recognizes 49 law schools in three categories – public interest, government and prosecutors/public defenders – and is based on curricular offerings, employment placement, starting salaries, the amount of debt upon graduation and Loan Repayment Assistance Programs (LRAPs).
“We are proud to see NIU Law continue to be nationally recognized for its public interest offerings and curriculum, including our clinics, externships and pro bono opportunities,” NIU Law Dean Mark Cordes says.
“Offering interested students a proven pathway to successful public service is just one way NIU Law continues to fulfill our ongoing commitment to the legal marketplace.”
Earlier this year, NIU Law was named similarly by National Jurist as one of the top “Best Value” law schools in the nation, receiving an A- as its overall rating by the magazine.
As the only public law school in northern Illinois, NIU Law has been consistently recognized for diversity, value and its ability to accommodate students interested in careers in small practices as well as those looking for work in larger organizations – and has established career success programs to support both interests.
