The pantry, which relies on donations and volunteers, strives to provide non-perishable, supplemental food and other necessities for NIU students who are in need of support.
Kathy Zuidema, who works in NIU Career Services and is the pantry’s founder, estimates that as many as 1,500 NIU students could be experiencing food insecurity on any particular day. The most pressing needs are peanut butter, macaroni and cheese, pasta sauce and soup, as well as paper towels, toilet paper, deodorant and toothpaste.
