Community School of the Arts plans winter recitals, concerts

Photo of a baritone hornThe NIU Community School of the Arts will host several winter recitals and concerts from Saturday, Dec. 5, through Saturday, Dec. 12.

Solo and ensemble performances are featured in the Recital Hall and Concert Hall of the NIU Music Building. All are free and open to the public.

Saturday, Dec. 5

  • Showcase Recitals are at 9 and 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. in the Recital Hall. Children and adults who take private lessons on a variety of instruments will perform with an accompanist.
  • Piano students of Georgia Price perform at 3 p.m. Guitar students of Eric Schroeder play at 5 p.m.
  • CSA Steelband, directed by Yuko Asada, and the NIUkulele Ensemble, directed by Eric Schroeder, perform at 7 p.m. in the Recital Hall.

Sunday, Dec. 6

  • CSA Children’s Choir, directed by Mary Lynn Doherty, performs at the NIU Holiday Concert at 3 p.m. in the Concert Hall.
  • Harp and piano students of Jaina Krueger perform at noon; Suzuki cello students of Tom Cappaert perform at 2 p.m. in the Recital Hall.

Monday, Dec. 7

  • Suzuki piano students of Marilyn Montzka perform at 5 p.m. in the Recital Hall.

Tuesday, Dec. 8

  • CSA Symphonette, directed by Linc Smelser, performs at 6 p.m. in the Concert Hall.

Wednesday, Dec. 9

  • CSA Guitar Ensemble, directed by Quentin Dover, performs at 8 p.m. in Room 241 of the Music Building.
  • CSA Children’s Choir performs at 7 p.m. in the Recital Hall.

Saturday, Dec. 12

  • Cello students of Linc Smelser perform at 10:30 a.m., followed by the Suzuki violin students of Ann Montzka-Smelser, Laurie Rodriguez and Carolyn Snyder at 1:30 and 3:30 p.m. in the Recital Hall.
