Provázek Quartet to debut at Saturday concert

Close-up of a cello and bowCSA Chamber Intensive Groups perform the music of Haydn, Beethoven and Shostakovich in recital at 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 21, in Room 173 of the NIU Music Building.

The recital is free and open to the public.

Making their public performance debut will be Provázek Quartet, featuring violinists Chantel Davis and Charlotte Donelson, violist Jacob Rollins and cellist Benjamin Rodriguez. The group will perform music by Beethoven and Shostakovich.

Also on the program is a string trio featuring violinist Christina Ryzhov, violist Sophie Kennedy and cellist Grace Frielink that will perform music by Haydn.

The musicians are all students and ensemble members at the NIU Community School of the Arts.

Linc Smelser coaches the Chamber Intensive Groups, which include some of the best high school musicians in the region. Smelser, who conducts the Kishwaukee Symphony Orchestra, CSA Sinfonia and Symphonette, performs with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. He also gives cello lessons for the CSA.
