Candlelight peace vigil planned November 19 at NIU

A photo of a candle with its reflectionNIU students are organizing a candlelight vigil Thursday, Nov. 19, for the victims of the recent terror attacks.

Beginning at 6 p.m. in the Martin Luther King Memorial Commons, the vigil will honor the victims of recent terror attacks in Paris, Beirut, Syria and Kenya. Organizers intend to raise awareness of what is happening around the world – not just in Paris – along with promoting peace in this turbulent time.

The vigil was planned as a grassroots movement by individuals on campus from different backgrounds.

These student leaders believe that it is important for students at NIU and for members of the local community to take an active approach in this turbulent time to show support to those who have suffered from recent terror attacks. Their hope is to bring people together, regardless of race, ethnicity or religious background, to promote peace and awareness.
