CSA Sinfonia to perform Wagner, Dvořák

Close-up of a cello and bowThe CSA Youth Sinfonia performs the music of Wagner and Dvořák at its first concert of the season, which begins at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 4, in the Boutell Memorial Concert Hall of the NIU Music Building.

On the program, which is free and open to the public, is “Prelude to Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg” by Richard Wagner and Symphony No. 9 “From the New World” by Antonín Dvořák.

Sponsored by the NIU Community School of the Arts, this audition-only orchestra attracts some of the best high school musicians in the region.

Linc Smelser directs the group, which rehearses on Wednesday evenings in the NIU Music Building. Smelser, who is also the conductor of the Kishwaukee Symphony Orchestra and CSA Symphonette, performs regularly with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, gives cello lessons for the community school and also teaches at Wheaton College.
