NIU employees who want to salute their outstanding colleagues now have an easy – and highly visible – way to do so.
“Applaud a Colleague,” a new feature on the NIU Today website, allows employees to anonymously hail those people whose work might otherwise go unacknowledged.
Recipients of the online kudos will receive emails informing them of the recognition.
“President Baker was inspired by input he received over the summer during a series of meetings with more than 200 faculty and staff leaders,” said Brad Hoey, director of Campus Communications in the Division of Marketing and Communications.
“Among the topics discussed were opportunities to celebrate the efforts of faculty and staff who do great things to enhance collaboration and help move the university forward,” Hoey added. “Applaud a Colleague was born from these discussions as a way to recognize and say thanks to people within their departments, and across the university, for jobs well-done.”
Baker is confident that there is plenty of praise to go around.
“NIU employees work hard day in, day out, and routinely go above and beyond what’s expected. This is because they treasure this institution, they see how the university transforms lives and they genuinely want our students to succeed,” Baker said.
“My goal is to make our people know that their work is valued, no matter if it’s an aspect of their jobs where they excel every day of the week or if it’s something extraordinary they took on and hit out of the park,” the president added. “We all like pats on the back, and I’m excited to read more about the amazing things we’re doing.”
