DoIT renews wireless security certificates

April 20, 2015

Photo of a padlockNIU’s Division of Information Technology (DoIT) renewed today the two Verisign SSL certificates for NIUWireless authentication.

WHAT DOES THAT MEAN?

When you connect to NIUWireless, you are using a secure connection, meaning the data sent to and from your device is encrypted. If data was sent in plain text, an attacker might be able to intercept and use it.

DoIT uses a combination of encryption, authentication and authorization to keep your connection to NIUWireless secure. Every year, the SSL certificates are renewed.

IF YOU USE AN iPHONE

If you use an iPhone, you’ll get a pop-up asking you to accept the new certificate. Click “Accept” and you’re on your way to another year of secure connections to NIUWireless. Android and other mobile devices will automatically accept the new certificate.
