NIU Employees Federal Credit Union plans annual meeting

Logo of the NIU Employees Federal Credit UnionThe NIU Employees Federal Credit Union will host its annual meeting Thursday, April 16, in the Chandelier Room of Adams Hall.

Chandelier Catering Corp., an NIU student-run service, will cater a free soup-and-salad buffet luncheon at 11:30 a.m. with the meeting starting at noon. Other activities include a guest speaker who will educate members on various aspects of consumer credit reports and a door prize.

A credit union is a financial cooperative operated and controlled by its members. Credit unions exist to encourage thrift and provide financially sound and responsible savings, loans and needed services to members. Credit unions host annual meetings to educate members on the progress of the credit union. Members also can demonstrate their ability to participate in the credit union by voting in elections at these annual meetings.

Serving all employees of the NIU community, the NIU Employees Federal Credit Union was founded in 1958 with 17 members and assets of $1,157.23. It currently counts 2,500 members and assets in excess of $15 million.
