FCNS Child Development Lab to celebrate NIU’s youngest learners

Young children crossing campus Early learning experiences are crucial to the growth and development of young children.

The FCNS Child Development Lab will celebrate the National Association for the Education of Young Children’s Week of the Young Child 2015: Celebrating our Youngest Learners.

Scheduled from Sunday, April 12, through Saturday, April 18, the Week of the Young Child is a time to recognize the importance of educating young children and to thank parents, teachers, caregivers and other adults play important roles involved in their education and care.

During this week, the Child Development Lab will host a variety of activities for children, parents and staff. Planned events during the week include a Taco Tuesday Family Lunch and a CDL campus parade.

Meanwhile, the Child Development Lab (in partnership with Safe Passage of DeKalb) will collect donations of used or new children’s books to benefit children staying at Safe Passage. Drop boxes are located in Wirtz 118 and Gabel 169/170.

Staff at the lab also encourage everyone to thank early childhood teacher and others who work to make a difference in the life of a child. They also urge everyone to become educated and aware of the issues affecting young children and their families and how these issues impact education.
